In 1856, the estate became the home of the Gilliland family who has maintained and developed this landscape through six generations to the present day, including planting one of the finest arboretums in the Northwest of Ireland, specialising in its collection of conifers, rhododendrons, magnolias, and camellias.
Over the past 30 years, Brook Hall Estate & Gardens has led the way in researching and promoting energy, environmental, and landscape management strategies to succeed in true sustainability and inspire behavioural change, becoming the first farm in Northern Ireland to be measurably carbon positive.
Brook Hall is one of seven farms from across Northern Ireland that is part of the ArcZero project and on a journey to carbon zero farming. Visitors on the Open Farm Weekend public days (Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 June) will find out more about this journey and learn about the role soil plays in producing good quality food and helping in the delivery of climate change
Throughout the weekend, visitors can also enjoy vintage machinery, tours of the farms and tractor and trailer rides for the families. And on Sunday 16 June, Naturally North Coast and Glens Artisan Market will be at Brook Hall. This is their first time participating in Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend.
