This is the first year Jonathan Tuft and his family (wife Bobby, and children Pippa and Cairns) from Bessvale farm are participating in Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend.
They have a mixed farm in Upper Ballinderry and the family have been farming there since Johnathan’s great-grandfather bought the site in the 1800s.
Although best known for their organic and non-organic chicken flock, which they supply to Moy Park, the Tufts also have about 130 sheep, a beef finishing herd which includes some pedigree Herefords and grow on about 30 acres of barley.
Jonathan is keen to educate people about the high standards adopted by farmers in Northern Ireland and how important locally grown produce is as they sometimes miss what’s available on their doorstep.
He is looking forward to getting the opportunity to show off his farm to the public during the Bank of Ireland Virtual Farm Weekend.
