Glenside Farm spans approximately 80 acres and is nestled in the picturesque drumlins of County Down. It is home to the award-winning Glen Cowie pedigree Aberdeen Angus cattle and Blue Texel sheep. The farm is owned by Iain and Malini Colville. Iain, originally from Newtownards, comes from a fourth-generation farming family.
In 2021, following the pandemic, Iain and Malini established a social enterprise, Glenside Farm Comber CIC, on part of the land. This initiative supports the community in fostering health and well-being through farming, nature, and community engagement. The enterprise operates through workshops, space hire, and events.
This year, the farm has been delivering the Farm to Fabric project, funded by the Heritage Fund. The project provides participants with the opportunity to learn how to prepare raw fleece from the farm’s sheep for spinning, weaving, dyeing, and fabric work.
During Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend, visitors will have the chance to meet the farmer, gain insight into sheep farming, and engage with the Farm to Fabric project through demonstrations and hands-on activities. Guests can also enjoy the open countryside while sampling refreshments.
