Leading food company Pilgrim’s Europe, home to Moy Park is proud to announce its continued sponsorship of the upcoming Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend, taking place from 13–15 June 2025.
This much-anticipated, free-to-attend annual event, organised by the Ulster Farmers’ Union, invites the public to explore the world of farming – promoting awareness and appreciation of Northern Ireland’s vibrant agricultural sector.
As a key player in the agri-food industry and the largest poultry producer in the region, Pilgrim’s Europe’s sponsorship reflects its Moy Park farming roots and the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting rural communities and championing sustainable, high-welfare farming practices.
Across the weekend, 20 farms will open their gates to schools and the public, offering a behind-the-scenes look at where our food comes from and how it’s produced. Visitors will gain insight into the sustainable, locally sourced, and nutritious farming processes behind the food on their plates.
Bessvale Farm in Lisburn, one of the many farms growing birds for Pilgrim’s Europe, will participate in the Schools’ Day a key part of the Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend and open to the public on Saturday 14 June. Speaking from the farm, Shelby Caldwell, Speciality Broiler Farms Manager NI at Pilgrim’s Europe, said:
“Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend is a brilliant initiative and a true highlight in the agricultural calendar. At Pilgrim’s Europe, we are proud to support rural communities across Northern Ireland. This event is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the dedication of local farmers and the crucial role they play in producing healthy, sustainable and delicious food. We’re delighted to support the event once again and encourage everyone to come along and take part.”
Since its launch in 2012, the Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend has grown significantly, drawing thousands of visitors each year. The event helps bridge the gap between urban and rural communities by offering an authentic insight into farm life and the essential role of agriculture in daily living.
John McLenaghan, Deputy President of the Ulster Farmers’ Union and Chair of the Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend, commented: “Each year, Open Farm Weekend continues to grow – bringing farming to life for families, schoolchildren, and communities across Northern Ireland. It’s an opportunity to learn about food production, sustainability, animal welfare, and the innovation behind modern agriculture. We’re delighted to have Pilgrim’s Europe as a valued sponsor once again. Their leadership in the poultry sector and their commitment to high standards across the supply chain make them an ideal partner for this event. Together, we are helping educate and inspire the next generation while showcasing the vital role our farmers play.”
